TheOneRing.net had the opportunity to watch a 10 minute clip of the first Hobbit movie at the recent CinemaCon, and they spotted Evangeline’s character Tauriel in action! Here’s what they had to say about it:
Too bad I didn’t see anything of the new Tauriel character played by Evangeline Lilly — except one swooping action shot where she slides cowboy-style across the ground with her bow drawn, ready to kill… Fans have asked only one question about this invented character: what does she look like? Well, brown is what she looks like. I mean, she is sporting the same outfit we’ve seen Legolas wear but not in green. Her hair is not blonde — actually she seems to be the first chestnut brown-haired Elf we have seen in PJ’s adaptations.
How exciting! Source (beware of spoilers)

WELLINGTON, New Zealand—Shen Yun Performing Arts’ debut in Wellington’s St. James Theatre proved to be very popular with the local theatre crowd but also drew celebrities from the entertainment industry.
Canadian actress Evangeline Lilly was ecstatic after attending the classical Chinese dance and music performance on Monday, April 23.
“I thought the show was completely and utterly delightful,” she said. “It was really lovely. I enjoyed it.”
Evangeline, who was a star of Lost, will soon be playing the part of Tauriel, a mirkwood elf, in Peter Jackson’s adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic novel, The Hobbit.
“Oh I loved it, I loved it,” said an emotional Evangeline after she had watched the show.
Based in New York, Shen Yun’s mission is to revive the 5000-year-old traditional Chinese culture. Besides classical Chinese dance, it also presents folk and regional dances drawn from China’s more than fifty ethnic groups.
“The costumes were amazing and the women were so graceful and the men were full of energy,” said the actress.

A quick glance at Evangeline Lilly’s IMDb page reveals a filmography that’s surprisingly short on quantity. But look at what is there: a groundbreaking and beloved TV series (Lost), a Best Picture winner (The Hurt Locker), and, oh, a tiny two-movie project known as The Hobbit.
Last year, Lilly starred in the robot-boxing family film Real Steel, which earned nearly $300 million worldwide and received an Oscar nomination yesterday for its motion-capture visual effects. She played Bailey, the former girlfriend of Charlie (Hugh Jackman) who now owns the boxing gym he frequently visits.
EW recently checked in with Lilly to chat about Real Steel, which debuted on Blu-ray and DVD this week. Click through to read the interview, in which Lilly discusses why she signed up for the role, what it was like working aside animatronic machines, and her upcoming role as a kickass warrior elf in The Hobbit.

Evangeline Lilly has previously revealed how her character in the movie The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, is not an authentic character from the book. However, that has not stopped the actress from having some great fun on the set of the film. Evangeline also admitted that she is not really a fan of science fiction, which makes her career so far very interesting.
“Yeah, for a young woman who’s really not into sci-fi, I’m very confused about my film choices. I’m having the greatest time in the world in New Zealand. I was a huge fan of J.R.R. Tolkien growing up, and if I had to choose anything I could have pretended to be in those books, it would have been, hands down, without question, an elf. And I am playing an elf. And it’s the most fun. It’s the greatest thing ever. My ears are the biggest things you’ve ever seen, and I love them.”
