Evangeline Lilly Sheds Light on ‘Lost’

From unexplained time travel to bizarre psychological experiments, the plot lines of ABC’s “Lost” keep fans guessing.

Evangeline Lilly, the show’s beautiful castaway, recently visited “Good Morning America” to help explain what exactly was happening on TV’s craziest island.

In this week’s episode, Lilly’s character, Kate, and Sawyer escape from the clutches of the Others but have to leave Jack behind. The tension between Kate and Sawyer is palpable, but Lilly said that didn’t mean she had picked him over Jack.

“I don’t think she’s made a decision, because in the real world, even when you get married, things can go off track. Kate hasn’t forgotten about Jack at all,” she said. “On the first day off the Alcatraz island, they start fighting because she wants to go back and get Jack.”

While Lilly couldn’t reveal more about why the castaways were on the island, she shared one outlandish theory about the mystery behind “Lost.”

“I’ve heard the idea that this is all a dream that Vincent the dog is having,” she said. “But if you ask anyone on the cast what’s going on, we’ll say: … ‘Ask the producers.’ You’re not alone, though. I am waiting with bated breath to find out what’s happening.”

Lilly and many of “Lost’s” cast members rent homes in Hawaii, where the show tapes. In 2006, a fire ravaged many of their homes, including Lilly’s. She believes losing many of her material possessions made her stronger.

“All I had were the clothes on my back, my wallet, and my car,” she said, describing her state after the fire. “And it was almost liberating. I kept waiting to wake up and panic that my stuff was all gone. But I never did. I’m actively trying to resist replacing things. But I’m in no hurry to clutter my life up again.”

For now, Lilly and her cast mates have their minds on “Lost,” despite rumors that the show might end this season or next.

“If we know we’re working towards something, it keeps the excitement and the commitment going,” she said about the cast. “The show started out with such integrity. I’d like us to maintain it.”

‘Lost’ loses footage in airport blunder

Film from ABC’s hit show “Lost” was ruined when security employees at the Honolulu International Airport accidentally X-rayed the canisters despite warnings labels asking them not to.

The show’s crew had to reshoot the scenes because there were no copies.

“This is the first time anything like this has happened,” said state Film Commissioner Donne Dawson, adding that steps have been taken to prevent a repeat of the incident.

The loss will not affect the broadcast schedule for the popular show, according to co-executive producer Jean Higgins.

Higgins declined to say how much the gaffe cost ABC.

“That’s proprietary information between us and the insurance company,” she said. “We’ve already reshot. We are still on schedule.”

Having to reshoot film is a monumental issue, said Anne Misawa, a local film producer and instructor at the University of Hawai’i Academy for Creative Media. A reshoot involves paying added costs for actors and venues.

Evangeline Lilly and Dominic Monaghan Tying The Knot This Summer?

Evangeline Lilly and Dominic Monaghan are getting married this summer, it has been claimed. The Lost stars are planning to tie the knot when the cult TV series breaks from filming in July.

A source told America’s Star magazine: “They’re planning to get married during the show’s summer hiatus in Hawaii. It will be a beautiful but low-key wedding.”

Lord of the Rings star Dominic, 30, and 27-year-old Evangeline refuse to publicly speak about their relationship. They have been together for two years since meeting on the set of Lost.

British actor Dominic was reported to have proposed in Hawaii last month. A source said: “They want to spend the rest of their lives together.”

‘Lost’ Returns, but Some of Its Ratings Are Still Gone

ph2007020802271.jpgAfter three months off the air, the much ballyhooed return of “Lost” logged a lousy 14.5 million viewers, the smallest audience ever for an original episode.

The return episode also garnered the show’s smallest rating this season among the 18-to-49-year-olds ABC targets.

On the bright side, ABC noted that “Lost” surged from its lead-in — a “Lost” recap clip job — by nearly 6 million viewers.

The bad news: That “Lost Survival Guide” is probably the best lead-in “Lost” is going to see for a while; the network is supposed to bring back its Wednesday 9 p.m. comedies starting next week.

ABC noted that the “Lost” return snagged the show’s second best rating of the season among 18-to-34-year-olds.

Yes, “Lost” officially has become “Heroes”-esque — good with younger demos, but not the broad, country-sweeping series it once was.

But “Heroes” is a series just beginning its run on TV, and it appears headed for ratings growth. This season for “Lost,” on the other hand, is shaping up — as we’re sure Winston Churchill would have said had anyone asked — not as the end of “Lost,” but definitely the end of the beginning of “Lost.”

After airing just six episodes of its convoluted serialized drama series, ABC rested “Lost” for three months rather than air reruns; reruns had not gone over well with fans last season, as reflected in the show’s ratings.

ABC also moved the show from 9 to 10 p.m. Wednesdays, to protect it from “American Idol.”

In its ratings analysis yesterday, ABC mentioned that in its new slot, “Lost” defeated CBS’s “CSI: NY” by 42 percent among those coveted 18-to-49-year-olds, and by 94 percent among the 18-to-34-year-olds who are now the Holy Grail of Madison Avenue. This is known as damning with faint praise, given the demographic skew of the CBS drama.

Ditto ABC’s talking point about “Lost” posting the network’s best numbers in the Wednesday 10 p.m. time slot since last May.
